Theragun Prime Plus Review India: Is the Heated Theragun Worth It?
Quick answer: The Therabody Theragun Prime Plus is Therabody's mid-range heated massage gun. It has the same 16 mm stroke Theragun is known for, five speeds and a Heated Percussive Plus head with three heat levels (45, 50 and 55°C). It weighs 886 g, charges by USB-C and connects to the Therabody app. At WOD Armour it costs ₹38,999 at the time of writing (MRP ₹49,990). It's worth it if you want deep Theragun-style percussion with heat for warm-ups and stiff muscles, without paying for the Pro Plus. It isn't the best pick if you want maximum stall force for heavy deep-tissue work or the longest battery.
Below we answer what people actually search: is it worth it, how it compares with the Prime and Pro Plus, what's in the box and how to use it.
Theragun Prime Plus specs at a glance
These figures come from Therabody's official product page, its Prime Plus FAQ and the user manual:
- Stroke length (amplitude): 16 mm
- Force: up to 40 lb (about 18 kg) of pressure, according to the manual
- Speeds: 5, roughly 1,750–2,400 percussions per minute (as measured by Massage Gun Advice)
- Heat: 3 levels on the Heated Percussive Plus attachment: 45°C, 50°C and 55°C (Therabody)
- Battery: about 150 minutes on Therabody's current page (the manual says up to 120). Heat and high speeds use it up faster
- Weight: 886 g
- Charging and app: USB-C (no wall plug in the box), Bluetooth to the Therabody app
- Warranty: 1-year limited, per Therabody
What's in the box?
You get the Prime Plus, four attachments (Heated Percussive Plus, Dampener, Standard Ball and Wedge), a USB-C cable, QuietForce oil and a travel pouch. The Thumb, Micro-point, Theragun Cold Plus attachment and Vibration Plus attachment are sold separately. They all fit the Prime Plus.
Is the Theragun Prime Plus worth it? Our honest review
What it does well
- Depth without the bulk. You get the 16 mm stroke of Therabody's flagship in a body that weighs about half as much as the Pro Plus (886 g vs 1,650 g).
- Heat that actually gets used. In Therabody's own review summary, the heated attachment is the most-mentioned favourite. Warmth makes early-morning sessions on stiff muscles far more comfortable.
- Quieter than older Theraguns. Massage Gun Advice measured about 40 dB at low speed and just over 50 dB at the top speed. They scored it 4.6/5 and called it a "comfort-focused" premium gun.
- Room to grow. Add the Cold Plus head later for sore joints and post-session cooling, instead of buying a second device.
Where it falls short
- Not Pro-level force. One Reddit user who had owned the Pro Plus, Prime Plus and Hypervolt 3 Pro wrote that the Prime Plus would "chatter or stop" when they pushed hard into glutes or quads. Massage Gun Advice also says aggressive deep-tissue users are better served by Pro-tier guns.
- Battery is fine, not class-leading. 120–150 minutes trails the Hypervolt 3 Pro's roughly 4 hours, and heat drains it faster.
- Premium price. You're paying for the heat, build and Theragun feel; capable cheaper guns exist.
Verdict: If you train most days and want one well-built gun with heat that can also take the Cold Plus head, the Prime Plus is the sensible Theragun. For raw power, look at the Hypervolt 3 Pro; for every feature, the Pro Plus.
Does heated percussive massage work? What the research says
- Massage guns and flexibility: good short-term evidence. In a 2023 study in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine (Skinner et al., 20 people), two 60-second bouts with a Theragun on the hamstrings increased straight-leg-raise range by 11.4% and reduced muscle stiffness.
- Strength and power: don't expect gains. A 2023 systematic review (Ferreira et al., 11 studies) found short-term flexibility and some recovery benefits, but no improvement in strength, jumping or agility.
- Pain: promising. A 2023 review in the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy (Sams et al., 13 studies) found repeated percussive treatment reduced musculoskeletal pain, though study quality was limited.
- Heat and soreness: supportive. A 2021 meta-analysis of 32 trials (Wang et al.) found heat applied within an hour after exercise reduced DOMS pain at 24 hours and beyond. Hot packs had the clearest effect; other heat methods weren't significant.
The honest gap: we found no independent, peer-reviewed trial of a heated massage-gun head. Therabody's "3x faster" claim comes from its own lab analysis, which compared muscle oxygenation, elasticity and temperature after 30 seconds with and without heat. Think of the heat as a comfort and warm-up feature backed by sensible physiology, not a proven recovery accelerator.

Prime Plus vs Prime: is the heat worth the extra?
Both have the 16 mm stroke and five speeds. The Prime Plus adds the heated head, two more attachments, Plus-attachment compatibility and a longer official battery life. If your muscles feel tight in the morning, or you want the Cold Plus head later, choose the Plus. If you only want percussion, the Theragun Prime 6th Gen does the core job for less.
Prime Plus vs Pro Plus
The Theragun Pro Plus adds near-infrared LED, an included vibration head, an on-device screen with guided routines and a heart-rate sensor, for ₹20,000 more at the time of writing. It's also almost twice as heavy. Most gym-goers won't miss those extras; physios treating clients all day may.
Prime Plus vs Hypervolt 3 Pro
The Hyperice Hypervolt 3 Pro has more stall force (70 lb), six speeds, a longer battery and a heated head in the box, for slightly less money. The Prime Plus has the deeper 16 mm stroke, USB-C charging, a lighter body and the triangle grip for self-treatment. Our Hypervolt 3 Pro vs Theragun Pro Plus guide covers the flagship match-up.
How to use the Theragun Prime Plus
- Turn it on: press and hold the power button. Press it again to step through the five speeds.
- Add heat: fit the Heated Percussive Plus head with the device off, by lining up the white dots and twisting to lock. Then press the intensity button for low, medium or high heat. To use heat without percussion, keep pressing the power button past the top speed.
- Warm-up: 1–2 minutes per muscle with light pressure, finishing a few minutes before heavy or explosive lifts. See our guide to choosing massage gun speeds.
- Recovery: 2 minutes or so per area on lower speeds, keeping the gun moving. Avoid bones, the front of the neck and the spine, and use the Dampener on tender spots.
- Lock it for travel: press the power button three times quickly to lock it, and three times again to unlock.
Care tips for Indian conditions
- Heat and storage: the manual says to charge it between 5°C and 35°C and not to store it where temperatures exceed 45°C. So don't leave it in a parked car in a Delhi summer.
- Oiling: if you use it daily, apply 3–4 drops of QuietForce solution around the piston (attachment removed) about every four months, then run it for 10 seconds.
Who should be careful
Therabody's precautions advise checking with a doctor first if you're pregnant, have diabetes, numbness or altered sensation, take blood thinners, or have a fracture, open wound, bruise or skin condition in the area.
